As the operator of multiple high-profile sites in Victoria including Melbourne Museum and the Royal Exhibition building, Integrated were engaged to help them reduce their energy and maintenance costs through lighting, while providing a fresh and memorable experience for visitors.
This is how we did it.
The Challenge
Museums Victoria sought to revitalise the lighting at several of their high profile sites including Scienceworks, the Immigration Museum, the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Museum. Their goals also included reducing operating costs and achieving sustainability targets.
Museums Victoria preserve over 17 million collection items for present and future generations. The challenge we embraced while working in close proximity to many priceless, historically significant artefacts, was to co-ordinate supply and installation on time with minimal disruption. This required a robust project plan which included auditing, product specification, product design and supply, project management, installation, measurement and verification to prove energy savings and recycling.
The Solution
This end to end solution aimed to optimise Museums Victoria’s lighting – making it work more efficiently in both a financial and environmental sense. Leveraging decades of knowledge and extensive history of longstanding lighting solutions, Integrated worked closely with all stakeholders including collection managers, conservators and curators to specify an innovative, cost effective and long term lighting solution.
The project’s energy objectives were achieved through an upgrade of the lighting to LED throughout front of house areas and lobbies, as well as back of house, storage and admin areas.
External lighting was upgraded to enhance public and patron safety, with the added bonus of enhancing the aesthetics of the building from the outside. We opted for SIDE floodlights that were 3000k to match the original design specification with a precise beam distribution that projected the light where it is required.
Throughout the installation and as sites were completed, Integrated gathered the information that delivered all available government rebates, reducing the overall cost implication. This also gave us the opportunity to check that all lighting was installed as specified and performed to the highest possible standard.
Client Outcomes
The end result was a site wide comprehensive lighting upgrade that will keep Museums Victoria shining bright for years to come. Just as importantly, Museums Victoria is now creating a more sustainable future, reducing waste, saving energy and cost with maintenance-free operation of their upgraded lighting.
